Warnings about council tax refund scam

A scam is doing the rounds at the moment offering people a council tax refund.

However Aylesbury Vale District Council is warning that they should not fall for it because it's just a ploy to get bank details.

If anyone contacts you and asks for your banking information you should tell them you are going to contact the council yourself.

The number for AVDC is available on 01296 585858 - don't call back on any number they might give you.

A number of people in the Vale have already fallen foul of the scam and in previous cases they have been asked for an administration fee too.

Jeff Membery, revenues and benefits manager, said: "We have reported these incidences to Bucks Trading Standards but are concerned that other residents could fall for this scam and lose money.

"We urge everyone to be vigilant and not to give out any sensitive information to unknown callers, either on the phone or in person."

Residents who receive any such approach should contact Thames Valley Police on 0845 8505 505.
