Villagers rally round to get Whitchurch's White Horse back in harness
Villagers in Whitchurch have rallied behind a campaign to re-open the popular White Horse pub and save it from being turned into homes.
Support for the pub has been so great that a recent meeting had to be rescheduled because the original venue was not big enough to hold everyone.
When the meeting finally took place last Wednesday, the response was equally good and people put together an objection to try and block the application to build on the car park, as well as the application for a change of use from a pub into a private dwelling.
Lesley Eichler, who runs the Deerstalker shop in the village, delivered more than 65 letters of objection to the council last week.
The pub closed in February last year after the landlord left and since then it has deteriorated into a slightly derelict state, according to locals. Now there are once again murmurings that the pub could re-open and the initial response has been very positive.
The White Horse was considered the heart of the community before it closed and that is obvious by the amount of people that have offered to help.
There is a Facebook group dedicated to saving the pub entitled 'Save The White Horse Pub, Whitchurch!' which has 154 members.
