Vale council needs to save extra £1m

Aylesbury Vale District Council has been forced to hammer out an extra £1million of savings for the next 12 months.

Councillor Neil Blake, who is responsible for finance, told members of the full council that with government grants set to fall, cash will need to be saved.

He said: "We're looking at over 1million to save, taking into account the assumptions we've made about what grants we're going to get.

"Our heads of services were locked up in a room and told to come up with some broad ideas to save money.

"We've potentially identified around 1million of savings for the next year."

And he said: "As portfolio holder, I'll meet with heads of service to go through savings and report back to the cabinet."

Cllr Lindsay Rowlands said: "Leaving it to the next budget isn't an option."
