UPDATED: Aylesbury couple in cliff plunge drama

THE couple seriously injured when their car veered off a cliff edge in Cornwall have been named by police.

Aylesbury student Charlotte Page, 21, and her boyfriend Chris Day, 20, were driving around Pendennis Point near Falmouth when their green Renault Clio fell about 75ft on to jagged rocks near the water's edge. Emergency services found the car turned on its roof.

Miss Page sustained a broken pelvis, internal bleeding and severe bruising and Mr Day, found trapped in the car, is recovering from fractures to the ribs and spine and internal bruising.

In the rescue operation involving ambulance, police, fire and coastguard teams the couple were airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske.

Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) hospital staff reported their condition as stable.

The car is registered in Aylesbury and the insurance company is now making arrangements to remove the car from the cliff.
