UPDATED 9.10PM: Fire at old Odeon Cinema in Aylesbury extinguished

A fire at Aylesbury's old Odeon Cinema on Cambridge Street has now been extinguished.

Flames and smoke were spotted at the disused building in the town centre at around 7.30pm.

More than 30 firefighters attended the blaze as the road was cordoned off.

The small blaze was put out with no visible serious damage to the premises.

The fire was on the ground floor of the three storey, 50 metre by 50 metre building.

Speaking at the scene, group manager Mick Martin said: "Firefighters gained access to the building, which was boarded up and secured with steel shutters, and have quickly surrounded the fire.

"They have brought it under control and managed to limit the damage to about 10 per ent of the ground floor.

"The cause of the fire is obviously being treated as suspicious at this stage."
