UPDATED WITH NEW PICTURES: Man rushed to hospital after Bourg Walk crash

A man has been rushed to hospital after being rescued from underneath a van following a crash on the Friarage Road intersection with the Bourg Walk Bridge.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 9.30am.

Reporter Ben Wilkinson, who is currently at the scene, said it appears that a single decker Star Travel bus collided with a yellow van as it went across the intersection from Station Boulevard to Great Western Street.

Fire crews rescued an Asian man, who was on foot, and who was trapped under the van.

The man, said to be a Kuwaiti national from outside the area and in his 20s, was rushed to hospital in an ambulance at around 10.20am.

The driver of the van has also been taken to hospital.

An eye witness, who was travelling just in front of the van, said shortly after the incident: "I saw the bus hit a van and the van flew right up in the air and it looks like the guy who is trapped was a pedestrian and he is now lying underneath a van."

The advice for motorists is to avoid the area.

Due to the accident, buses cannot currently access the bus station in Great Western Street. They are instead using Exchange Street.
