TV soap stars set to play in charity Winslow football match

A HOST of soap stars and ex-England football internationals are lining up to come to Winslow next month - to play in a celebrity football match.

Hollyoaks actor Jake Hendriks, who plays 'Father Kieran' in the hit soap, and Rob Kasinsky - better known as EastEnders hunk Sean Slater - are set to play in the star-studded match, at Winslow Utd on July 5.

A 'Celebrity XI' will take on the hosts in the fundraiser, which has been organised by Emmerdale star Ayden Callaghan - who himself plays for the SML Division One side.

The 26-year-old - who plays brooding Miles de Souza in Emmerdale - is heavily involved in the celebrity football circuit and hopes to attract further TV stars and up to four ex-England players to raise funds for the club and a local charity.

Ayden explained: "I can't confirm who the ex-England players are at this stage, but there are some big names I want involved, one of whom played for Newcastle not too long ago. I have played for Winslow since I was young and thought the event would be a good way to raise awareness of the club and hopefully take the pressure off them financially."

Ayden now lives in London, but was brought up in Winslow before going to Guildford School of Acting at the age of 19. His father, Patrick, played for United and Ayden has been lacing up his boots for the club since he was 14.

Known as 'Joe' back in Winslow, Ayden hopes the event will attract a crowd of over 1,000 people and has already sold tickets to fans as far afield as Italy.

Winslow United chairman Colin O'Dell paid tribute to Ayden's efforts - and told the Celebrity XI to expect a tough encounter.

"What Ayden's doing is fantastic and it will be a great day."
