Traffic light blackout causes major tailbacks
The loss of power to a set of traffic lights has caused major tailbacks in Aylesbury this morning (Friday).
Around 40 houses in Weedon Hill and Cromwell Avenue were also plunged into darkness at around 7pm.
The lights at the traffic hotspot at the Horse and Jockey junction, where Weedon Road and Elmhurst Road are currently being 'widened and improved', were not working this morning leaving motorists facing four different directions of traffic.
The dangerous situation made for gridlock during rush hour as motorists, some of whom had been sat in queues for up to an hour on the Buckingham Road coming into Aylesbury, blocked the main junction in their desperation to get through the traffic.
It is not yet known exactly what caused the power cut which is believed to have lasted 14 hours so far.
The lights were still not working at 9.30am this morning. Overnight works have taken place on the junction for the last two nights.
Pensioner Ted Robins, of Cromwell Avenue, said: "We have had no juice now for 14 hours.
"It is very, very annoying. It is strange, my wife is registered blind but she can see a little bit but not when everything goes off.
"Now of course we don't have heating in the house, it is a big worry really. We're both in our 80s and that is another problem.
"But we should get over it because we're built that way in England."
