A grandmother from Aylesbury has been shortlisted in the search to find the UK’s best grandparent.

Kishori Rao has been nominated for the award by her granddaughter Lauren.

The search has been organised by restaurant chain Table Table.

Lauren said she nominated her because “she is the loveliest person in the world.”

Lauren added: “She puts others first and she is a great friend.

“You can talk to her about anything and she will always be there for you.

“She makes the best Indian food in the world and she is always looking after everyone else.

“She is loved by everyone and is a true inspiration.

“I hope I’m half the woman she is!”

Mrs Rao was told of her nomination when she was contacted by this newspaper.

She said: “I am very excited and surprised to be nominated, it is a great honour.”

Mrs Rao, who lives in Bishops Walk, has six grandchildren - Lauren, 20, Robert, 18, Matthew, 16, Daniel, 11, Jake, 10, and Molly, eight.

She is one of ten grandparents from across the country competing for the title.

The result will be decided by a public vote and the deadline for voting is Friday (November 6).

Mrs Rao added: “I might take the family on holiday if we win!”

The winner will receive a year’s worth of free meals at Table Table as part of the prize.

Jo Watling, marketing manager at Table Table, said: “The award is the first of its kind so we can’t wait to see which grandparent wins.”
