A leisure quarter like no other has been unveiled for Aylesbury town centre – with detailed plans being revealed this week.
The mixed restaurant and residential development will have four restaurants facing a new public square and cinema, with commercial space facing the Long Lionel passage.
There will also be 36 two- bedroom and 11 one-bedroom apartments, which will be sold to private buyers.
Outline planning approval for the scheme was given in 2014, and the detailed planning application will be decided on in September.
After that developers Durkan would move in, and 18 months of construction work is due to begin in spring 2017.
Teresa Lane, commercial property and regeneration lead at Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: “The town centre plan sets out very clearly a vision to improve Aylesbury by providing all the ingredients a modern town centre needs to thrive.
“Over the last few years, the town has benefited from significant investment by both the private and public sector, nearly £100 million by AVDC alone.
“It’s fantastic to be partnering with Durkan and their architects, Hunters, who have done a great job in taking the outline design to detailed stage.”
Restaurants and shops will be able to compete for tenders on the retail spaces, and bosses say they have not ruled out independent ventures as well as established chains such as Zizis for the space.
Aylesbury Vale District Council will own the restaurant and commercial space and pay the balance for construction costs that are not met from the sale of the apartments.
This figure is estimated to be around £4.02 million.
The council says that the rent from the restaurants and commercial space will pay for these costs, and generate income for the council going forward.
A new public square, plans for which will be sent as a separate planning application will be paid for with £3 million in funding from the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership.

The yellow areas on the final picture are where AVDC took inspiration from other Aylesbury architecture.
