A country show filled with horses, dogs, livestock, tug of war, a fancy dress parade and all the traditional delights of this quintessentially English event will be held on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of August.

The Winslow Show, held on the fields opposite Winslow Hall in the appropriately named Sheep Street, provides a glorious day of family fun as well as raising money for vital local charities.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy horse, dog and livestock competitions, listen to the Great Horwood Silver Band, admire the artisan crafts marquee, try their luck at the coconut shy or simply take advantage of the beer tent, delicious hog roast, barbecue and glorious homemade goodies in the tea tent.

There are loads of things to see and do, to fill up the whole day for all the family.

Highlights of this year’s show include a vintage and classic car and tractor display; a fabulous tug of war challenge; a dog show with novelty classes and dog agility; children’s funfair, Punch and Judy and magic shows; a colourful children’s fancy dress parade with the theme this year of ‘My favourite book or story’; and lots of charity and commercial stalls.

Being in a village location the rural roots of the show are very obvious.

And staying true to the countryside heart of the show there will be classes in livestock, hay and grain and horse showing and gymkhana competitions in the main ring.

The show is organised by volunteers from Winslow Show Association with valuable support from Winslow Lions Club, Winslow Rotary Club, Buckingham and Winslow District Scouts and Edgcott and Winslow Young Farmers.

Dean White, chair of Winslow Show Association, said: “The day is dedicated to giving local families and visitors a cracking day out that is packed with entertainment.

“ Whilst also helping to raise funds for Winslow’s charities and important community groups.”

The show is open on Bank Holiday Monday (August 31)from 9am - 5pm.

Parking is free at Sheep Street and tickets to the show cost £3 for adults, £2 for senior citizens and £1 for children.
