Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance flies 11,000th mission

The Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance (TVACAA) has flown its 11,000th mission

It was an emergency air lift from Welford, near Newbury to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon last week.

It has been a month of landmarks for the Air Ambulance which serves Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, as the charitable trust that funds the operation recently celebrated its 10th anniversary in mid-June with a birthday cream tea at the Odney Club in Cookham.

TVACAA's Chairman, Colin Lee MBE, said: "It has been quite a month for everyone involved with the Air Ambulance but we have been able to use these landmark occasions to good effect by establishing ever stronger links with the community and reinforcing our fund-raising message of 'We rely on you so you can rely on us'. In these recessionary times we must all work harder to raise the 2 million we need each year to keep our helicopter flying."

Mr. Lee also explained that former patients who have been airlifted by TVACAA are important ambassadors for the charity and are highly successful in spreading the word about the charity's operation.

"However, few people realize that the Trust rarely gets to know the outcome of emergency missions and because of patient confidentiality, we only know the barest of facts about who has benefited from the service and unless the patients themselves come forward and tell us about their experiences. We don't even know their names unless they tell us.

"We hope that our 11,000th mission will prompt a few ex-patients to contact us and let us know how they are getting on and maybe even join us in promoting the Air Ambulance service and the good work that it does."
