Tearing down the house in Aylesbury

The completion of more than 170 brand new affordable homes for key workers located next to Stoke Mandeville Hospital was marked today by the demolition of the old hospital accommodation site.

Built by a partnership of Thames Valley Housing, Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Persimmon Homes, the brand new development site that has taken over two years to build consists of 27 family houses.

The houses contain 144 single en suite rooms available for rent to key workers and others who fit the necessary criteria.

Head of Commercial Housing at Thames Valley Housing Nick Lloyd said: "We are delighted to be part of such a worthwhile project.

"The accommodation will have a really positive effect on the local community, allowing a large number of skilled key workers to remain in the area where they work, living in high quality accommodation affordably.

"The fully-furnished accommodation has been built to suit a variety of family sizes and budgets, ranging from single rooms with en suite shower and WC and sharing living/kitchen facilities, to family houses with two or three bedrooms.

"What all the accommodation has in common is a high quality finish and affordable rent."

The accommodation is available to all key workers in the Aylesbury area and employees of other local businesses agreed in conjunction with Aylesbury Vale District Council, although priority is given to all hospital staff.

There are still a small number of homes for single people available also with parking on site.
