A musical extravaganza was a fitting way for Friars Club legend David Stopps and his new wife Sue to get married at the weekend.

The sun shone at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre for the pair, who first met in the early days of David’s famous Aylesbury club but only got together a couple of years ago.

On the day 200 guests enjoyed a ride in a classic train, as well as music from John Otway, Howard Jones, Frank Walsh’s Old Country Union and the Smokey Bill Stallwood’s Bluestormers.

The happy couple, who are now on holiday in St Ives reconnected when Sue was instrumental in organising the recent Friars live shows and exhibition at the County Museum.

David said: “It was absolutely fantastic, and we were so lucky with the weather, I think it was the best day for weather for about six weeks and it was a perfect day for us.

“I’ve been to a lot of weddings and some of them were quite boring, I definitely didn’t want this to be and I think everyone had a great time.”

He added: “We’ve known each other for 45 years, I knew Sue when I was 21.

“We used to send Christmas cards and birthday cards to each other, but we only got together a couple of years ago.”

And as soon as they get back from St Ives the newly weds are looking forward to working on some new projects together.

David said: “We will be working on some new shows when we get back, so stay tuned.”
