A senior nurse at RAF Halton is celebrating after being awarded a royal honour for her medical work.

Sister Joy Rickcord, a senior civilian nurse at Halton’s regional medical centre has been given a Venerable Order of St John.

The honour recognises her long-term service to the centre in the field of health governance.

Miss Rickcord was born in Princes Risborough and went to The Grange School in Aylesbury.

She qualified as a nurse in Hampshire in 1976.

She said: “When I received a letter informing me I had received the award my initial reaction was one of surprise.

“It took a while for it to sink in but I am absolutely delighted and very proud to be the recipient of such an honour.”

Miss Rickcord is currently engaged to be married to a medical officer at RAF Halton, wing commander Raj Vaikunthanathan.
