Race for Life: all is not lost
All is not lost for disappointed fundraisers who wanted to run this year's Race for Life as a local volunteer organises an alternative event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
After the news last week that the national cancer charity has withdrawn from this year's Race for Life at Waddesdon Manor due to construction work at Westcott Venture Park, runners have been left frustrated in looking for other venues.
Ever increasing in popularity, the event first came to Aylesbury in 2002 and last year attracted over 3,000 women.
The fundraisers collected 220,000 meaning that this year the charity would suffer a substantial loss should many of them choose to refrain from alternative events.
However, a similar event, Relay for Life, organised by local volunteer Emma Eyles, wishes to encourage those who have been disappointed by Cancer Research UK's decision to join in this alternative event to maintain the same amount of money raised for the same cause.
The weekend event takes place at Aylesbury Rugby Club on July 3 this year.

Running for its second year after raising 28,800 last year, organiser Emma said: "The event is a 24-hour walk with one member of the team on the track at all times.
"The slogan is that cancer never sleeps so neither will we. Last year we had 20 teams with three having already signed up for this year.
"After the cancellation of this year's Race for Life at Waddesdon Manor, we're now hoping that people continue to support the charity and join Relay for Life instead.
"During the event, there will be a fete in the afternoon, fantastic bands through the day and into the evening, activities for children and adults and fun fancy dress laps.
"At dusk there is the Candle of Hope ceremony – you can purchase a candle bag and decorate it to celebrate or commemorate a friend or relative battling cancer and these light the path for our teams throughout the night."
Relay for Life aims to raise awareness for all types of cancer – it is for the whole family, from grandparents to toddlers right through to the family dog.
Emma continued: "We want as many people as possible to get involved, whether it be coming to the fete to support our teams and survivors, making your own team or helping out on the committee.
"We are also looking for local businesses to support the event, either with a team, having a stand on the day or sponsoring one of the events such as the Survivors Lunch.
"Last year, we had a Jazzercise club doing the Saturday warm-up, who are coming back to help again this year."
