Eighty pupils from Bierton Combined School visited Barratt Homes’ Kingsbrook site at the end of term to see the archaeological investigations being carried out by the developer.

Building work is due to start in September on the 2,450-home development, after detailed planning permission for the first phase of new homes was granted last month.

Together with Oxford Archaeology, the pupils were able to get up close to the mechanical excavator being used to strip off the upper deposits, speak to the ecologists, have a tour of the archaeological features on the site and see how archaeological fieldwork is undertaken.

At the finds table, the children were excited to see what archaeologists generally find and quickly learned to tell the differences between pieces of Roman and post-medieval pottery.
