Philip Hammond MP will hold behind-closed-doors meetings with a small group of councillors, action group representatives and householders affected by the HS2 proposals during visits to Aylesbury and Twyford.

The day is part of Mr Hammond's tour of places the line will run through.

Previous events have been targeted by protesters – and campaigner Penny Gaines is urging those against HS2 to once again show Mr Hammond how strong feeling is against the scheme.

"The more people there the more impact it will have.

"Mr Hammond is used to being in opposition and people don't boo opposition politicians but he will have to acknowledge he is now making decisions that affect a lot of people.

"They will be peaceful protests.

"Just being there, even if you don't have a placard or a T-shirt, will make a difference."

At 11.45am Mr Hammond will arrive at Twyford Village Hall for a meeting chaired by Buckingham MP John Bercow.

The Commons Speaker said protests were 'inevitable'.

"I personally hope people will turn out and make it very clear how they feel," he added.

Mr Hammond will then travel to Aylesbury for another private meeting with the town's MP, David Lidington, and several constituents at Aylesbury Vale District Council's offices in Gatehouse Road at 3pm.

Mr Lidington said it was important the protests are peaceful, 'otherwise it's counter productive as far as the cause is concerned'.
