Protesters' fury after HS2 meetings in Vale switched at last minute
High speed rail protesters are fuming after meetings set to be attended by transport minister Philip Hammond were rearranged at the last minute.
Up until Wednesday morning, Mr Hammond was due to meet a select group of concerned residents on Thursday at 11.45am in Twyford.
Campaigners in the village were planning to target the meeting with a protest.
However, the meeting has now been switched to Buckingham at 11am.
A similar meeting in Aylesbury on Thursday, at the AVDC offices in Gatehouse Road, has also been put back from 3pm to 5pm.
Campaigner Penny Gaines fumed: "I am fairly certain they are doing this to avoid protests.
"The people organising Twyford have done everything possible to make the protests safe and secure.
"I have emailed a few people and it is quite clear there are a lot of very frustrated people out there.
"It has made it a lot harder for us to run a peaceful and well organised demonstration."
A Department for Transport spokesman said: "Unfortunately the Secretary of State (Mr Hammond) has had to reorganise his schedule as he has to go back to London for urgent business.
"We regret any difficulties caused by these alterations.
"Despite this the meetings will go ahead which will give people an excellent chance to put across their views on high speed rail to the Secretary of State."
