Promised £100k business lifeline scrapped
A £100,000 lifeline for hard-up businesses was scrapped last week by County Hall.
Bosses at Bucks County Council say they can no longer afford the cash, which was pledged in May.
It had been set to go the Buckinghamshire Economic and Learning Partnership, which gives grants to small businesses.
The council has blamed a drop in funding from central government.
Councillor Martin Tett, cabinet member for planning and environment, said: "This money was pledged in good faith at a time when, as far as we understood, certain funding would be forthcoming from central government.
"Events have changed somewhat since May."
And he continued: "We will continue to urge the new Government not to forget that it is the South East of England which contributes more to the economy of this country than any other region.
"They must not 'kill the goose that lays the golden egg' by disinvesting in the South East's economy."
Graham Grover, chief executive of the Buckinghamshire Economic & Learning Partnership said: "We recognise that this is another knock to our local small business economy, especially at a time when we are trying to support growth and expansion."
