Prisoner who escaped from Springhill caught by police
An inmate who absconded from Springhill Prison in Grendon Underwood last month is back behind bars.
Andrew Francis was caught by Thames Valley Police on Saturday during an intelligence-led raid on an address in Downley.
The 33-year-old escaped from Springhill Prison on February 11 after serving eight months of a five-year jail term imposed for a number of burglaries.
His escape triggered a large scale manhunt with officers patrolling places he has been known to visit and other checks, which cannot be revealed for operational reasons, on his whereabouts.
In the early hours of Saturday officers attended a home in Garratts Way, Downley and arrested Francis for absconding from prison.
He was charged with the offence later the same day and remanded in custody.
He went before Aylesbury Magistrates' Court this morning (Monday) and has been remanded to HMP Woodhill prison.
A 29-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, both from High Wycombe, were also arrested at the address on suspicion of harbouring a prisoner unlawfully at large.
They are both bailed to High Wycombe police station until 4 May 2010.
