The landlady of The Whale pub, which shut its doors last week, thinks no one will revive it because Buckingham is ‘fed up with it’.
Kirstie Jones relaunched the pub in November but she has called it a day because of a lack of local support.
She oversaw a refurbishment in time for the festive period and whipped up some fresh interest among regulars with a series of gigs and events. But she thinks there is not enough support from people in the town.
She said: “That pub is never going to revive. People are fed up with it.
“They (a new landlord) will be put off because of the comments from locals and they are not going to get the support you need.
“I would be surprised if it could be revived.
“It would be better off being sold to Costa!”
She added: “They’ve tried fine dining, a club, and we’ve tried music, but nothing has worked.
“They will get another mug in there to run it for them and it’s going to destroy the next owners, like it did with us.
“I can’t help but feel disappointed. It did so well years ago and we almost got it back.
“If you got more support from locals, we would have been fine, but instead you’ve got certain people commenting about you and bringing the place down.”
“No one will want it now,” she said.
The pub, in Market Hill, will remain closed while a new licensee is found.
