Opportunity Knocks winner from Aylesbury dies at 77
Harry Gumm, the man with the singing dog, has died at the age of 77.
The Aylesbury man sang, whistled, yodelled, and did farmyard impressions to win the famous television talent show Opportunity Knocks three times.
Most famously he beat actress Su Pollard singing alongside Jack, his singing Jack Russell.
Mr Gumm spent much of his life travelling up and down the country singing to and entertaining people with his wife and their famous dog.
June Gumm, Harry's wife of 53 years, paid tribute to him this week.
"He did so much in his life," she said.
"Everyone loved him. We had a packed church for his funeral. It was a lovely day for him, and he would have been proud."
She said that the funeral parlour was flooded with calls from people wanting to express their sympathies and fond memories.
"He was a wonderful man and a very spiritual man," said June. "I had a good life with him, and I would do it all over again."
Mr Gumm featured in the Bucks Herald in 2005 when he was known as the 'sit-down gardener'.
Due to health reasons he could only garden sitting down with specially adapted tools.
His colourful flower beds attracted many an admiring compliment.
He was also the founder of an U15s football team in Quarrendon.
Mr Gumm, who lived in Aylesbury for 46 years, passed away on November 9 after a long illness.
He left behind two children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
