Only the FA can save Aylesbury United now
STUART Kemp from Aylesbury has raised concerns over the future of Aylesbury United Football Club.
Since the end of the 2005-2006 season Aylesbury United have been left homeless since their ejection from their Buckingham Road Stadium, and this has resulted in numerous ground shares at Aylesbury Vale Football Club, Leighton Town Football Club and for the main part Chesham United Football Club who have all very kindly assisted our club in the on going pursuit to find a new permanent home.
Sadly the news broke a couple of days ago on Thursday 30th April 09 that Aylesbury United's stay at Chesham United had come to an end due to the two clubs being un able to come to some sort of agreement. Chesham itself is a 20 minute journey away from Aylesbury and if that was not far enough for the fans to travel it now looks as if the club may have to look at either moving further away from home whilst looking for a new ground or maybe even collapsing which would deeply sadden me and I'm sure everyone else in Aylesbury.
With all of this going on, and with the club playing out of the town the fan base has slowly deteriorated and from a club that averaged home crowds of between 500-1000 during the eighties, nineties and the beginning of the 21st century to an average home crowd last season at Chesham of just 176 which I am sure will only decrease further if the club moves further away from the town.
The most saddening point of all I would like to mention is that Buckingham Road Stadium which has hosted the England National team on two occasions and was also part of a training camp for the Ajax team is now sitting there empty gathering dust and I often ask myself if it was good enough for these teams to come and visit why are Aylesbury United not playing there now?
The local council seems to care little about the situation and would seemingly much rather waste money on other projects such as building a new bridge that links the town centre to one local estate where there already was a linking pathway and bridge in the first place whilst the stadium slowly rots away.
It is looking now more than ever that the club will never return to the stadium and maybe even never return to Aylesbury and sadly I believe that if something major is not done soon then the club born in 1897 which is covered in history will be no more. It is only remaining now thanks to some very hard working, kind and dedicated gentlemen who give their life and soul to the club but I am afraid that soon they may be able to do no more.
I am asking that if The FA can help our club's cause and perhaps along with Bucks County Council can bring the club back home and stop the club's current decline. If it can't help I fear nobody else can.
