New tattoo studio makes its mark on Winslow walking group

It's not your typical check-in for a rambling group but it was brews and a chat for the Simply Walkers when they popped into Winslow's new tattoo and piercing parlour.

Manhattan Ink is now up and running on the High Street and the trio who launched it wanted to make the studio as bright and welcoming as possible.

But they were pleasantly surprised to see it appeal to the walking group – not their normal clientele.

“I didn’t get one done – I think I’m too old,” said Aylesbury Vale District Councillor for Winslow and walker, Sue Renshell.

“But they were very helpful in explaining what they did to the walkers I had with me.

“I was also informed that a couple of the walkers went back for some ‘work’ later that week.”

Brothers Charlie, 20, and Jamey Bowles, 21, who both went to The Buckingham School, have teamed up with custom tattooist Duncan Lambert, 32.

Together, they run the parlour, which opened three weeks ago, offering a personalised service for a wide range of tattoos and piercings.

“It couldn’t have gone any better,” Charlie said.

“It’s certainly different, coming to Winslow, because it’s quite a quaint place. But we’re trying to fit in with the aesthetic.

“Too many tattoo parlours are dark and scary. We’ve made it very bright and open with wooden floors and it’s as clean as it can be.”

Charlie, the assistant manager and apprentice piercer, is chuffed with how the opening has gone – in particular how welcoming Winslow has been.

He stuck the kettle on when the Simply Walkers popped in and enjoyed telling them all about what they do.

“It was nice to see some new faces,” he said. “They (the walking group) liked it and there were some really positive comments.

“Some of them said they would come back. The tattoos are all unique but we haven’t had any strange requests just yet.”

Entrepreneur Jamey is the studio manager and Duncan prides himself in making every tattoo unique and personal.

The studio is open from 10am until 6pm Monday to Saturday.
