My message to Aylesbury's homeless

Reader Stephen Rotherham has strong words for two homeless couples featured in The Bucks Herald.

Has the world gone mad?

I refer to last week's headline-grabbing article (No home, no help, The Bucks Herald, August 18).

To the couple in the tent I would say: "Go back to Brighton. Make it up with mum and or dad or both. Live with them until, like the rest of us did, you can actually afford to rent somewhere of your own."

To the couple living in a van. "Get rid of your three dogs – they must cost 15 / 20 per week to feed.

"You will then have a rent deposit that much quicker and without dogs there will be a much greater choice of properties you can rent."

To both couples I would say: "In this day and age we should all only have what we can afford.

"We should not expect society to pay for a particular lifestyle that we want when by making some sacrifices it is possible to be self financing."

As for Councillor Michael Edmunds. Is he inviting every homeless person in the UK to buy a tent, come to Aylesbury and be automatically re-housed?

I, for one, do not want Aylesbury to become the social housing capital of the world.

Nor do I as a rate/taxpayer want my money spent in this way.
