Flava 36 following a huge fire

Three children were among 16 people evacuated from their homes after a fire broke out in the Flava 36 ice cream parlour in the early hours of this morning.

Four fire engines tackled the blaze after being called to the High Street parlour, opposite Vale Park, at 2.26am.

Thirteen adults and three children were evacuated from adjoining properties after the incident.

The fire has destroyed the ground floor while the first and second floors were damaged by smoke.

Units surrounding the parlour – El Halal, Roblin and Son, Crown and Mehria Solicitors and China Garden – all appeared to have had their front doors smashed by firefighters looking to gain entry to the buildings while tackling the fire.

The cause of the fire continues to be investigated.

Traffic is now moving better following the re-opening of roads surrounding the High Street.
