Volunteers from across the Vale came together for a celebratory photo shoot to mark the 30th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week.

Aylesbury Vale District Council organised the event to honour the fantastic contribution hundreds of volunteers make across the district.

The week, from June 1 to 7 each year, is a national celebration of volunteers and volunteering and plays a huge part in raising the profile of volunteers, as well as encouraging others to get involved.

Groups who took part included the Queens Park Arts Centre, Winslow Library volunteers, Friends of Winslow Youth Centre, Winslow Big Society Gentle Walks, Bucks Play Association, Chilterns MS Centre, Aylesbury Citizens Advice Bureau, Florence Nightingale Hospice and Community First Responder for South Central Ambulance Service.

During the shoot at the The Gateway offices, there was also a draw to select the lucky volunteers from each group that were nominated to win one of 12 free Waterside Theatre trip tickets.

Cabinet member for community matters Cllr Pam Pearce said: “Volunteers across Aylesbury Vale make a huge difference to people’s lives and getting involved can be very rewarding.

“Just giving up a few hours a week or a month can help improve someone’s life. It is also a great way to meet new people and make a big difference to your local community.”
