Whisky fans will soon have an opportunity to indulge their shared passion as a tasting club is set to begin meeting in Aylesbury town centre.
The founder of the Aylesbury Whisky Club, Joe Sammon, is looking to bring together like-minded amateurs with an interest in the drink.
The 40 year old said: “The growth in whisky over the last five years has been huge.
“The new club is all about getting people interested in this fine spirit and also providing a meeting place for those who have greater experience.”
The club will have monthly meetings and members will be treated to a range of whisky varieties from around the world.
“We will endeavour to broaden members’ palates by reaching beyond Scotland to alternative whisky producers such as Japan and India, or new players, like Australia and English whisky.
“There is so much variety out there now, you really don’t have to constrain yourself to just Scottish whisky.”
The club is still in its early stages and currently looking for members prior to its first meeting.
If successful, it will expand beyond simple tasting sessions to include tours of distilleries and hosting expert guest speakers.
Joe said the motivation behind the venture is the desire to share an interest that has been with him for many years.
“I was introduced to the drink by an uncle when I was younger.
“I visited a distillery in Scotland and I’ve been interested in whisky ever since.
“It’s always been a hobby interest, but this is a great opportunity to share whiskies that you wouldn’t normally taste and to meet other people who have the same interest,”
He said there is more to whisky than may meet the eye.
“I love the variety of tastes in one spirit.
“Some people might consider that it all just tastes the same, but in fact there’s a great range available.”
