A £700 diamond ring has been won by a retail manager after he was closest to guessing how long it would take to be dislodged from inside a heart-shaped ice sculpture.

Dean O’Leary, 23, from Hartwell, guessed 17 minutes from the actual time of 54 hours, 37 minutes and 21 seconds that the ice heart took to melt to release the ring.

Friars Square shoppers guessed how long the ice sculpture, near New Look, would take to melt and release the ring.

Mr O’Leary, who is marrying his fiancé Hope Roxanne in May, collected his prize on Monday from Solitaire jewellers, which donated the ring.

He said: “It was a shock and she (Hope) was pretty surprised too. But she’s already got a ring though!

“She said it might be worth selling it to raise funds for the wedding.”
