PICTURE SPECIAL: Parish walk proves a bumpy ride for some

Residents from Grendon Underwood took part in a traditional event called Beating the Bounds yesterday (Tuesday).

The event takes place every seven years and involves residents completing a 15 mile walk around the edges of the parish.

The walk begins and ends at Gallows Bridge.

The last event of its kind was in 2009 and 64 people took part.

During the walk, it is tradition for new people taking part to be given ‘the bumps’: which involves them being patted on the bottom with a shovel.

The Rev Angela Mann underwent the Bumps during this year’s event.
