Neighbours on a housing estate plagued by a mystery screeching sound are celebrating after finding out the cause.

After last week’s article detailing the noise on the Stoke Grange estate in Aylesbury, the Bucks Herald was inundated with calls as to what it may be – including birds of prey, the hospital’s boiler room and property developers pile-driving into the ground.

Sandra Walker, of David Close, said: “A man from the Stoke Mandeville Auto Centre on Wendover Road called me and said he thought it might be their burglar alarm.

“He told me he would set the alarm off and that I could listen out for it. So I told my neighbours Nigel and Loré to listen too, and we all immediately said ‘Yes, that’s it!’ and I called him back.

“He was very apologetic, but I have no anomosity towards him at all. I’m just so pleased it’s sorted – but no thanks to the council.

“I still think they should have been more helpful initially when they knew we were having problems.”

Sandra confirmed that the business owner had the alarm installed more than a year ago after experiencing break ins on the forecourt.

She said: “He said he was going to reset the timer, and that he was going to move the alarm inside so it muffled the noise.”
