An inviting new childrens’ play area outside Hale Leys Shopping Centre is officially open to the public.

The ribbon was cut by Michael Rand, chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council at a ceremony earlier this week.

Although attached to the One4Six cafe, the adventure playground is open to anyone, regardless of whether they have bought a coffee or not.

But with the cafe providing outside seating, the owners hope that some may take advantage of the nearby facilities – and ice cream – on offer.

Graham Cole, chairman of taxpayer-funded Aylesbury Vale Estates, which has invested over £200,000 on revamping the garden area of the centre, said: “The new playground will be a useful place for those looking after young children and, if the weather ever gets any better, to sit out and have a coffee and still be able to see them.

“The popularity of the surface car park make this one of the key entry points into the town centre and we want to make it as attractive and lively as possible.”
