A woman has been presented with a Special Dedication to Families Award by Bliss, the special care baby charity.

Tring mum Sarah Connelly was given the award at a special ‘thank you’ event at London’s City Hall, in recognition of her volunteer work with families of premature and sick babies.

Sarah has two children, Nadia, five, and Rosa, four. who were born premature.

Nadia was born at 25 weeks and had to spend five and a half months in hospital before she could finally come home for the first time.

She still has health problems because of her early birth and has needed numerous surgical procedures and to continue to be seen at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Rosa was born at 33 weeks and also has medical issues to contend with.

Sarah got involved with Bliss after they supported her while her daughters were in hospital; shortly after Rosa came home she began to volunteer with the charity.

Sarah said: “I am honoured to have been nominated. I’ve loved every minute of the time I have spent volunteering on the helpline and acting as a Bliss Buddy.

“I have met some amazing people whilst volunteering and it has been so rewarding to be able to offer advice and help based on my own personal experience and to reassure families that there is someone who knows what they are going though, and they’re not alone. ”
