Mum's plea after daughter's death as fund to fight Meningitis reaches £20k

Emily, who lived in Buckingham and spent three years working at Tesco, suddenly fell ill on New Year’s Eve 2013 and despite doctors’ best efforts, she died the next day aged just 19.

Her mum Julia, who teaches at the Royal Latin School, set up a forever fund to raise vital cash for Meningitis Now.

The aim was to reach £7,000, but this week the total surpassed £20,000.

“Thank you to everyone in Buckingham for all the ways they have contributed and for such amazing support in memory of my precious 19-year-old daughter,” Julia said.

“Meningitis B took Emily’s life in around six hours.

“She was not even at uni but had been working full-time as a teaching assistant

“She had flu-like migraine symptoms and no rash, even after her death.”

She added: “If your son or daughter is going to university or out into the world, please get them vaccinated against Meningitis ACW and Y.

“If you can, also pay for the Meningitis B jab privately.

“Get on the waiting list at Boots and other clinics. Neither of these jabs was available when Emily died. Our campaign means they are now.”
