Morris men’s annual Mayday dance

Waiting for Video...

Whitchurch Morris Men have performed their annual early morning May Bank Holiday dance.

The group, who were formed in 1948, met at 6.30am on Monday morning to dance on Coombe Hill in the Chilterns.

Publicity officer Nigel Cox said: “We have danced on the May Bank Holiday ever since the Government introduced it.

“It was a beautiful morning with the sun shining and although we didn’t have many people watching this year we are pleased with how it went.

“We then went for breakfast at The Hampden Arms afterwards which was enjoyed by everyone.”

Nigel added the group were always looking for new members.

He said: “We are always looking for new blood to join us, and particularly younger members.

“Morris dancing is not just for old men and we want new people to help us keep these traditions going.”
