John Bercow column: It was my duty to speak out on wind turbine proposal

Have your say

Last Thursday I was at Aylesbury Vale District Council offices, giving evidence to the Planning Inspectorate inquiry into the Dorcas Lane wind farm proposal.

As I explained to the Inspector, I am not able to speak out publicly on the subject of every planning objection that comes across my desk – and there are a large number – but I felt in this instance that the proposal would be so damaging to Stoke Hammond and the surrounding villages, that it was my duty to speak out on behalf of my constituents, who are overwhelmingly against the application.

Although it will be some time before the Communities Secretary, Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, makes his determination, I am hopeful it will ultimately be the one that the local residents are campaigning for.
