AN Aylesbury company has provided hi-tech satellite maps for a charity expedition in the Artic containing Prince Harry.

Esri UK, in Walton Street, provides mapping technology for governments and charities around the world.

Most recently Esri has teamed up with forces charity Walking With The Wounded to provide interactive maps for its fundraising expedition to the North Pole with Prince Harry.

The technology enables anybody with an internet connection to track the expedition’s progress online.

Esri’s head of technical solutions Peter Wilkinson said: “One of the most obvious ways we could help was to develop a dynamic digital map that would show the expedition where they are going, what they can expect, and most importantly, plot their progress on the website.”

He said they can also provide geographical data to assist the guides on the ground in keeping track of shifting sea ice.

And to create an even better interactive experience, Esri has worked with the Royal Geographical Society to digitise its archive of historic arctic maps, charts and logs.

He said: “We wanted to do something a bit more educational, so you can overlay old maps with the current expedition and compare different routes.”

Follow the expedition at walkingwiththewounded.org.uk.
