Muslims taking part in Ramadan will have the chance to pump iron later in the day after an Aylesbury gym decided to extend its opening times.
Body Flex Gym in Cambridge Street will open between 11pm and midnight starting tomorrow, so that devout Muslims will still be able to get a workout session in while fasting.
Gym owner Tony Montalbano confirmed that a number of his customers approached him and asked him to open the gym later so they could keep on track with their fitness goals during the religious fast, which involves not drinking or eating during daylight hours.
He said: “It’s great that they still want to carry on their hobby and not lose what they’ve gained. I’ve told them to make sure they get a meal in beforehand and to fuel up afterwards.
“They are my customers and I respect their religion, so I don’t mind doing it for them.”
The gym’s usual opening hours are from 10am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 11am to 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.
