Gold medal for Halton-born Olympic star

A Halton-born rower has triumphed in his bid to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Andrew Triggs-Hodge scooped the coveted prize in the men’s coxed eight section of the games.

Hodge, 37, is now a triple Olympic gold medallist as well as a quadruple world champion.

He was born in Halton, and then his family moved to Burnsall in the Yorkshire Dales where he attended school. After this he attended Oxford University, where joined the rowing team and took part in the famous Boat Race.

His previous gold medals in Beijing and London were in the coxless four category.
