Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has submitted a planning application to build a petrol station in Gatehouse Road.

The eight pump station, which would be close to the planned Sainsbury’s superstore further down the road, would have room for 16 vehicles and would be on the former Kerry site.

A new pedestrian crossing would also be built close to the petrol station.

A spokesman said: “As part of Sainsbury’s public consultation in September 2012 on the plans to redevelop the area around Sainsbury’s existing Buckingham Street store and to construct a new store at the Gatehouse site, we received a large number of requests that the Gatehouse store include a Sainsbury’s petrol station.

“The new petrol station would regenerate the vacant land on the junction of Gatehouse Road and Gatehouse Close (opposite the Toyota dealership) and introduce greater competition for fuel in Aylesbury.”
