French visitors join 40th anniversary celebrations

Wendover Twinning Association welcomed a group of 33 Liffréens at Halton House on Friday, May 13. There were speeches by Wing Commander Ray Morley, representing RAF Halton, and Bob Duggan, chairman of Wendover Parish Council, followed by Dawn Rance and Serge Douaglin, leaders of Wendover and Liffré Twinning Associations. After a light lunch there was an interesting talk about the history of Halton House by Trixie Brabner.

A group of hosts and visitors admired the newly refurbished Twinning Stones and garden outside Wendover Community Library. The visitors judged the best dressed window competition, organised by Wendover Chamber of Trade and Commerce. 1st prize was presented to Just, with the Florence Nightingale Charity Shop and Number One taking 2nd and 3rd prizes.

A wonderful evening was spent in the glorious surroundings of St Mary’s Church, which had been decorated in style. A delicious supper was provided by Debbie Tolputt, and local band The Notations supplied first class musical entertainment.

Saturday was spent in Windsor, where celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday were in full swing.

Members of Wendover Twinning Association and the visitors from Liffré visited Windsor Castle in the morning, then enjoyed lunch during a leisurely boat trip on the Thames.

Host families organised different activities on Sunday, May 15 - Wendover Woods, Waterperry Gardens and Waddesdon Manor featuring among the destinations.
