The first patients at a new £42.8m mental health hospital in Aylesbury arrive today.
After opening its doors officially on Monday to allow staff to move in, the Whiteleaf Centre on Bierton Road is welcoming patients over the next few days.
Inpatients with mental health difficulties who are currently cared for at the Tindal Centre and John Hampden Unit are among the first set to be transferred to the new facility, funded by the Oxford Health Foundation NHS Trust.
Ros Alstead, director of nursing, said: “The first adult patients are set to move into the sapphire and ruby wards.
“The centre has taken eight years to come to fruition and it will bring significant benefits to residents in terms of mental health care, treatment, wellbeing and recovery.”
Patient Katy Blunt said: “The team moving to the new centre have cared for me throughout my stay so far.
“I hope the new centre will provide the basis for many happy endings like mine.”
