The Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Families Association, SSAFA, at RAF Halton have made a donation of £400 to the Station's Mother and Toddler Group.

The group, which is based in the Trinity Community Centre on the Station, lapsed some months ago and has now had new life breathed into it by one of the wives, Emma Daly, who agreed to run it.

She said: “The group had been closed for a while with no one to do the setting up and putting away. The first session was free but it will cost £1 per family per session after that to pay for the squash, biscuits and craft materials.”

At the opening ceremony of the Rainbows and Rattles Toddler Group within the Trinity Community Centre, with games and face painting, Squadron Leader Jackie Wren, OC Personnel Management Squadron, said: “It’s a great pleasure to see this group reappearing on the station due to the generosity of SSAFA and volunteers, such as Mrs Daly, willing to step forward and provide their time, and it is a delight to open it for the benefit of our families.”

Fundraiser and chairman of the committee, Julie Smith, said: “The Mother and Toddler group is a vital facility which needed to be re-generated. As a mother myself I know the importance of meeting up with other mums and socialising our children with other children.

“New mother Fiona Gelmer was there with Thomas, and Jemma Steward, with Hugh, both agreed it was an asset to the station, giving the chance to chat to other mums, particularly when you are new to the station.”
