Commonwealth flag is raised in Market Square

The Commonwealth flag was raised in Market Square, Aylesbury this morning as part of a nationwide day to mark the historic association.

Sixteen of the 53 Commonwealth countries were represented at the ceremony in the form of local residents and employees.

At the ceremony Bucks’ Lord Lieutenant Sir Henry Aubrey Fletcher read a special message from the Queen and Bucks County Council vice chairman Zahir Mohammed read a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation to which people watching in the square responded.

The flag was raised by Pakistan-born Qasir Siddique, a county council senior site assistant.
