The Helen and Douglas House charity shop in Aylesbury High Street is celebrating its fifth birthday today (Tuesday).

Customers and volunteers are celebrating with a birthday cake and the shop is decorated with colourful balloons which are being given out to children passing by.

Manager Sarah Hunt said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our fifth birthday and would like to thank all our customers who shop with us, donate goods and all our amazing volunteers.

“As a local charity we are really part of the community in Aylesbury.

“Without your support we would not be able to raise the money to provide vital support to families with children and young adults with life shortening illnesses living in Aylesbury and the surrounding areas.”

Back in 2008 Sister Frances Dominica opened the shop and many customers still remember the specially painted ‘black cab’ which was decorated for the opening.

The charity runs two childrens’ hospices.
