Personal safety will be in the spotlight in Aylesbury next week as part of a national initiative.
Members of the Aylesbury Vale Community Safety Partnership will be in Friars Square shopping centre and Café Kingsbury between 10am and 2pm on Monday to offer advice to people.
They will be giving away dipping bells for purses which alert people if they are being stolen, anti-spike bottle tops for drinks and personal attack alarms.
Insp James Davies said: “Policing of our night time economy, Friday and Saturday nights, has always been a high priority.
“While we provide a high visibility presence in our towns there are things that the public can do to help improve their own safety and this initiative is aimed precisely at promoting this idea.”
The event is part of National Personal Safety Day, with this year’s campaign called ‘StreetsAhead’.
Councillor Pam Pearce, cabinet member for community matters at Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: “It’s vital that people feel safe in their communities and while risk levels vary from one area to another, there are some basic tips that anyone can use to help improve their safety.”
