A burger van man who achieved a five-star hygiene rating admits his customers think he has got OCD due to his relentless cleaning.
Andy Payne, 39, has been serving hot food and refreshments from B&Q carpark in Vale Park Drive for the last two years.
His van - Burger Grill - is one of four kitchens in Aylesbury to receive a five out of five hygiene rating in the latest district council inspections.
The other businesses were BB’s in Friars Square, The Garden Café in the Bucks County Museum and Budgens in Buckingham Park.
Andy, who lives in Whaddon Chase, was surprised his van was considered ‘very good’ when some restaurants receive ratings of ‘poor’.
He said: “If people take pride in what they do, there are no problems.
“But I think people can become mundane and get stuck in a rut, that can spiral out of control and that’s when they get caught.
“My customers think I’ve got OCD! I must clean that griddle 1,000 times a day which of course makes it easier for the end of the day.”
Andy said burger vans are often expected to be dirty but because of their visible cooking for customers, a five-star rating shows he has nothing to hide.
He is also proud of his high standards when choosing food, which he says has customers coming back for more from as far as Chesham and Witney.
He said: “It’s all fresh. The eggs are from a little farm in Dinton, the beef is 100%, not 20%, and people notice the difference. Customers keep coming back.”
Customer advisor at B&Q Jake Greenwood, 18, enjoys a bacon and sausage baguette for his lunch most days from Andy because of the ‘nice food and good service’.
He said: “When it’s clean, I think it encourages people to come back because of the way burger vans are perceived. It makes it more attractive to customers.”
