Back in Time 1998: Evidence Kingsbury certainly is not square

This photograph was taken by myself in May 1998.

At the time I was putting the finishing touches to my first book called Aylesbury Past & Present in which were a few old aerial views.

I had to find a way of taking the same shots so I got in contact with Halton Aeroplane Club and I managed to get a 30 minute flying lesson.

I didn’t learn to fly – I just needed the time to take the photographs so we flew over Aylesbury a few times and I clicked away on my camera.

The photo seen here is of Kingsbury and Buckingham Street. What is immediately apparent is the fact that Kingsbury is triangular in form which really should be enough to stop people calling it ‘Kingsbury Square’.

For most of its life it has always been known as simply Kingsbury.

Only for a short time in the mid-1900s was ‘square’ added for some reason.
