Eleven new social houses will be built in the Elmhurst area after plans to redevelop a garage site were given the green light by councillors today.
Aylesbury Vale District Council’s development control committee unanimously agreed to defer and delegate the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust (VAHT) plans to demolish 13 garages between Oliffe Close and Coniston Green.
It means once a few creases in the scheme are ironed out, construction work can begin.
Twelve garages on the site will be refurbished and rented out and 15 visitor parking spaces will be provided.
A number of concerns had been raised about the plan, including that it would make the site feel overcrowded and will make problems with traffic worse.
Architect Rob Woolston, representing VAHT, said the area is ‘vacant and dilapidated’ and often suffers from anti-social behaviour problems.
Mr Woolston said: “This will resolve a long-standing anti-social behaviour problem while providing much-needed affordable homes.”
